assurance that God is in complete control, and all things—appearances not withstanding—are being directed together for the ultimate good of God’s people and to His everlasting praise (Rom. 8:28; 11:33–36). Hence we may be assured that our prayers are not in vain. We may observe that God does not merely direct the timing and sequence of historical events, but He is also continually upholding and preserving each and every creature within creation so that the events can even occur (Heb. 1:3; Col. 1:17).
